FreeCloud Drive Privacy Policy

1. Who Is Responsible for the Application

FreeCloud Drive is developed and provided by Brokct Labs. Website: brokctlabs.com.

FreeCloud Drive is an independent application that uses the Telegram API/TDLib. FreeCloud Drive is not an official Telegram application and does not claim endorsement by or affiliation with Telegram.

2. Scope

This Policy applies to the FreeCloud Drive desktop application for Windows, its local data, and features that interact with Telegram. It does not replace the privacy policies of Telegram, Microsoft, or other third-party services.

3. What Data FreeCloud Drive May Process

In this Policy, the term “Telegram sources” means Saved Messages, channels, groups, and topics available in the user’s Telegram account that the user adds or opens in FreeCloud Drive.

• Telegram account data required for sign-in and session operation: user identifier, name/profile data, technical authorization state, and local TDLib session data.
• Files that the user explicitly adds to the archive: documents, images, video, audio, and other supported files.
• File metadata: name, extension, size, selected date, integrity hashes, path/catalog, category, and available media metadata.
• Thumbnails, previews, and the local index/database needed for navigation, search, sorting, duplicates, similar images, and recovery.
• Content of Telegram sources that the user adds or opens in FreeCloud Drive, within the content types selected by the user.
• Coordinates, dates, and other metadata already embedded in files, if needed for local features such as the map. FreeCloud Drive does not use Windows Location Service to determine the device’s current location.
• Local application and account settings, including the most recently active Telegram account.

4. How the Data Is Used

• To sign in to Telegram through TDLib and maintain the session selected by the user.
• To upload, recover, view, search, sort, group, and manage the archive.
• To create the local database, thumbnails, indexes, hashes, and recovery metadata.
• To synchronize database and thumbnail backups with Telegram in accordance with the application’s features.
• To display the online map. Depending on the selected mode, FreeCloud Drive may load standard raster tiles from OpenStreetMap or vector map resources from OpenFreeMap. The vector map is rendered locally in the application using MapLibre GL JS.

5. Where Data Is Stored

• Locally on the PC: the working local database, caches, thumbnails/previews, settings, and TDLib account data. The local working database may be stored unencrypted; its protection also depends on the security of Windows, the user account, and the disk.
• In the user’s Telegram account: archived files, a backup copy of the local database, thumbnail backup data, service messages, and service captions containing metadata required to identify and recover archive data.
• FreeCloud Drive does not operate Telegram servers. Data processing by Telegram is governed by Telegram’s rules and policies.

6. Encryption

Files that FreeCloud Drive uploads to the archive in the service channel created by the application within the user’s Telegram account are encrypted on the device before transmission. The remote backup copy of the local database is also transmitted in an encrypted container.

This encryption is intended to prevent FreeCloud Drive archive objects from being stored in Telegram as unencrypted content. It is not a “zero-knowledge” model with a secret known only to the user, and it does not change Telegram’s security model for messages or sources that already exist in Telegram.

Content from Telegram sources may already be stored in Telegram in its original form. FreeCloud Drive cannot retroactively change how Telegram stores such messages.

7. Who May Receive Data

• Telegram — FreeCloud Drive interacts with Telegram through TDLib within the specific Telegram account that the user connected to FreeCloud Drive. Data is transmitted to Telegram to perform actions initiated by the user in the application and to operate FreeCloud Drive features that the user uses or has enabled, including synchronization and backup, and only within that connected account.
• MTProto proxy — if the user enables an MTProto proxy, FreeCloud Drive’s connection to Telegram is routed through the selected third-party proxy server. The operator of such a proxy server may receive network connection metadata, including the IP address and connection time.
• OpenStreetMap — in the standard raster map mode, the OpenStreetMap server receives the IP address and tile numbers for the visible area, from which the viewed location can be approximately determined; photos, videos, file names, Telegram data, and archive content are not transmitted.
• OpenFreeMap — in vector or 3D map mode, the map loads vector tiles and required map resources, including fonts and sprites, from OpenFreeMap. The server receives the IP address and requests for resources for the visible area, from which the viewed location can be approximately determined; photos, videos, file names, Telegram data, and archive content are not transmitted.
• Microsoft/Windows — as part of the operation of the Windows operating system and platform components used by the application.

The FreeCloud Drive developer does not receive and does not have access to the contents of the archive, the local database, or the user’s Telegram account data.

8. Retention and Deletion

• Local data is retained for as long as it is needed for the operation of the application or until the user deletes it.
• Data that has already been sent to Telegram is retained according to the state of the Telegram account and the user’s actions. Deleting a local copy by itself does not guarantee deletion of the corresponding message or file from Telegram.
• Telegram may delete an account and the cloud data associated with it in accordance with its own rules, account settings, and inactivity periods. Deleting a Telegram account, messages, or files may result in deletion of the corresponding data used by FreeCloud Drive.
• To completely delete archive data, the user must delete the relevant objects from Telegram through FreeCloud Drive or Telegram and also delete local copies if they are no longer needed.

9. User Controls and Rights

The user can manage Telegram accounts, delete archive files and folders, disconnect an account, delete local data, and stop using the application.

Under applicable law, the user may also request access to personal data controlled by the developer, request its correction or deletion, request restriction of processing, or object to processing, where the relevant right is provided by law. Requests regarding such matters: privacy contact form.

For data controlled by Telegram or Microsoft, the relevant rights are exercised through those providers.

10. Security

FreeCloud Drive applies technical measures to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, including encrypting archive objects before transmission and protecting some local secrets using Windows mechanisms. No software product or network service can guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

FreeCloud Drive is not specifically intended for children. Use of Telegram is also subject to Telegram’s age requirements and the laws of the user’s country.

12. International Processing

FreeCloud Drive does not transfer archive data to the developer or to unspecified third-party recipients in other countries. When Telegram is used, interaction takes place directly with the Telegram service within the Telegram account connected by the user to FreeCloud Drive.

Telegram, OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap, and, if enabled by the user, the MTProto proxy operator may process data they receive using infrastructure in other countries in accordance with their own rules, privacy policies, and applicable law. FreeCloud Drive does not determine the location or operating rules of the infrastructure of these third-party services.

13. Changes to This Policy

This Policy may be updated as features, third-party services, or legal requirements change. The current version must be published on the website and specified in Microsoft Partner Center.
